A native of Florida, Sumer Grissom started her modeling career in Miami when she attended an open call and was selected as a model for the "Jill Tracey Collection". She modeled exclusively for them for 2 years doing fashion shows that took her all over the US and Canada. Most noted was "Funkshion Fashion Week" in Miami Beach. She was also a featured model on the London BBC urban fashion television show "Ghetto Fabulous" representing the brand.
After working with the "Jill Tracey Collection", Sumer relocated to Atlanta, GA. There, she founded the plus size women's organization "T.A.L.I. Girl" (Thick And Lovin' It) in 2006. It was started as a way to bring plus size women together through networking and fashionable social events. During this same time, she was presented with many modeling opportunities, so her focus shifted to modeling alone.
Sumer started to work her way through the plus modeling circuit in Atlanta. She participated in major fashion shows like "Atlanta International Fashion Week" and the DSE Events "Project Curves" and "Full Figured & Fabulous". During a model call, Sumer connected with a new designer, Jasmine Elder, who was launching a high fashion plus size clothing line called "JIBRI". She instantly connected with the designer and later became the brands signature model.
As a signature model for "JIBRI", Sumer has appeared in seasonal campaigns, represented the brand as a spokesmodel at the Magic Marketplace in Las Vegas, hosted several fashion events, has been featured on major high fashion blogs all over the world such as "The Fashion Bomb", "Vivelerondes", "Plus Model Magazine Blog", "Young Fat and Fabulous", "Nastalchic", "Madison Plus", "Garner Style" and appeared in numerous magazines such as "Clutch", "Gemini", "Viva La Moda", "Manik", "Venus Diva" and "FatQuarter".
Most recently, Sumer was featured in Iconography Magazine's "Thickest Issue Ever" for the JIBRI Spring 2010 campaign and became the face of the "Natural Style" brand of wigs. She is now seeking to branch out into commercials and expand on her work with young women.
Sumer Grissom is truly making a name for herself in the modeling industry and has done it all as a freelance model. Her philosophy is to never feel like she has climbed too high in life to stop reaching. |
